For more than 78 years, Buzick Lumber and Home Center has been a part of the local community.
The business began in 1944 with the purchase of a small lumberyard in Nelson County. Cliff Buzick was a local contractor who performed construction and maintenance work for distilleries in Nelson and adjoining counties. He bought the lumberyard in Bardstown, creating the family business. Cliff’s son, Donald, worked at and ran Buzick Lumber and Home Center from 1945, at the age of 19, until 1992, when the business was turned over to his daughter, Susan Elmore. In 1975 Donald opened a hardware store, which expanded the business from lumberyard to home center.
Today, as the third generation family member to run the business, Susan is president of Buzick Lumber and Home Center. She oversees the company’s 35,000-square-foot location, and in 1999 she became the first female president of the Kentucky Building Materials Association.
